2026 Case: The Not-so-Smart Thinking Machines and the International Bureaucrats
In a charged confrontation over digital sovereignty and minority rights, the Republic of Brythos and the Federation of Quirmania square off before the International Court of Justice.
At the centre of the dispute is Terranova, a semi-autonomous region whose claim to self-determination and protection of political and cultural identity has become entangled with the rapid deployment of advanced AI systems across the subcontinent of Uberwaldia.
This high-stakes case probes the contours of state responsibility, the prohibition of intervention in a neighbour’s domestic affairs, and the interpretation of the Uberwaldian Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law, set against a backdrop of contested cyber incidents.
Will the Court affirm the primacy of cultural integrity and self-determination in the digital age, or will the imperatives of innovation, technological progress and national security carry the day?
